About the ABD

The Association of Broadcasting Doctors (ABD) was founded by Peter Petts in 1988 with the co-operation of the BBC and the then Independent Broadcasting Association (IBA).  The core aim of the ABD is to facilitate the provision of credible, independent medical experts for the media. The ABD has grown from the original 90 members in 1988 to over 900 members including general practitioners, hospital doctors and other healthcare professionals covering most therapy areas.  All are motivated to clearly communicate health news and issues.

Funding

The ABD provides a free and independent communications link between the medical profession and the media. Funding comes from commercial organisations and medical charities who wish to interact with ABD members. All third party involvement is transparently communicated. The ABD also offers independent advice and assistance to commercial organisations and charities regarding the involvement of ABD members in health awareness campaigns.
